Graveyard Rabbit Journal

The Graveyard Rabbit Journal is an online publication, published weekly by the Association of Graveyard Rabbits as a service to its members. There will be eight columns that will rotate weekly, beginning March 5, 2009. The Association of Graveyard Rabbits is dedicated to the academic promotion of the historical importance of cemeteries, grave markers, and the family history to be learned from a study of burial customs, burying grounds, and tombstones; and the social promotion of the study of cemeteries, the preservation of cemeteries, and the transcription of genealogical/historical information written in cemeteries.

The Graveyard Rabbit Journal and its contributors would like readers to make productive use of materials found in its publication, particularly if the uses are for nonprofit educational and genealogical purposes. Unless rights of use are clearly stated with respect to an individual item, users must seek permission from the copyright owner for all uses that are not allowed by fair use or other provisions of the U.S. Copyright Act. The Graveyard Rabbit Journal accepts previously unpublished manuscripts related to the vision of the Association. Queries are not required, but strongly encouraged for feature and research-based articles. Detailed guidelines are available at The Journal of The Association of Graveyard Rabbits. Managing Editor - Robin Simonton

Robin Simonton is the author of the Graveyard Rabbit of the Triangle, N.C.. Robin is a cemetery enthusiast who lives in Durham, NC. A native of a Chicago suburb, she’s been exploring cemeteries since she was a kid. Robin has a BA in History from the University of Hawaii and an MA in Historical Administration from Eastern Illinois University. A wide array of cemetery experiences , Robin was a researcher on the book Oahu Cemetery: Burial Ground & Historic Site and also studied funeral and burial customs in the Illinois Amish Community. Currently, she’s on the management team of a local youth nonprofit and in her free time she serves as a docent at Oakwood Cemetery in Raleigh.

Maven graduated Magna Cum Laude from Seattle University School of Law in 2001 and received the CALI Excellence For The Future Awards in Research and Writing, Federal Indian Law, and Criminal Law. She was the recipient of the 2000 National Balfour Scholarship Award from the International Legal Fraternity of Phi Delta Phi. The International Legal Fraternity of Phi Delta Phi was established in 1869 to promote the highest standard of ethics and professionalism in the law.

During her third year in law school, Maven was privileged to be an Extern in the Chambers of Justice Faith Ireland of the Washington State Supreme Court.

Founder - Terry Thornton

William Terrance "Terry" Thornton (July 26, 1939 - August 9, 2010) was the author of The Hill Country of Monroe County and three GYRabbit sites, The GYRabbit Of The Hill Country, The Lann Cemetery Blog, and The New Hope Cemetery. Terry was also the author of a "Hill Country" column at the Monroe Journal, a Monroe County Mississippi newspaper and a "Graveyard Rabbit" column at Shades of the Departed.

Terry held three degrees from the University of Mississippi where he was a National Science Foundation Institute participant and a NDEA Fellow for his doctorate in science education. His professional teaching experience ranged from public school, education television studio teacher, to university professor and administrator.

He retired from teaching, and lived in Fulton Mississippi with his wife Betty at the time of his death.
